Significant Buildings in Wallace, NS

Home | Names List

This is a picture of the home of Joshua Huestis, one of the sons of Thomas. Joshua lived all of his life in Wallace, and was Postmaster and Justice of the Peace.

This house is presently located on a street that was once the tramway track for the Wallace Graystone Quarry. When Joshua lived in this house, it was located about 20 feet behind and to the left of where I was standing when I took this picture.

As related on his page, William B. Huestis [H126], son of Joshua Huestis, came home from New York in 1854 to build a store in downtown Wallace. This picture hangs on the wall of that store now, and the owner very kindly took it down and let me photograph the picture for this project. The legend on the back says that the picture was taken 1910 - 1915.

This image is of the same store, now a Home Hardware store. There are many improvements and additions, but the bones of the original store are clear to see.
